Medicare Advantage (MA) plans are health plan options approved by Medicare and offered by private insurance companies that are contracted by the federal government. MA plans provide Medicare Part A (hospital) and Medicare Part B (medical) coverage, and some plans include Medicare Part D (prescription drug) coverage.

Medicare Advantage plans typically provide additional benefits and services that Original Medicare does not cover such as HouseCalls, Renew by UnitedHealthcare, routine hearing, routine vision, NurseLine and fitness membership ~ not an exclusive list.

UnitedHealthcare offers four prescription drug plans for 2018 to meet the needs of every beneficiary. Drug use, drug coverage, and pharmacy access, along with UHC’s commitment to a hassle free member experience, should drive plan selection.

AARP MedicareRx Walgreens (PDP)

The AARP® MedicareRx Walgreens (PDP) plan has an exclusive preferred retail pharmacy benefit with Walgreens pharmacies. This plan offers a low Part D premium, $0 T1-T2 deductible and low copays with a generic-centric formulary. Walgreens is the exclusive preferred retail pharmacy with over 8,100 locations nationwide. Members must use Walgreens pharmacies to get the plans lowest copays, including $0 for Tier 1 drugs. There is also a standard network with over 35,000 pharmacies.

AARP MedicareRx Preferred (PDP)

The AARP® MedicareRx Preferred drug list includes most generic drugs covered by Medicare Part D and most commonly used brand-name drugs. $0 annual deductible, lower copayments with the Preferred Retail Pharmacy Network and access to more than 65,000 network pharmacies make this our most popular prescription drug plan. This plan is also available in all U.S. Territories, but a $405 deductible will apply.

AARP MedicareRx Saver Plus (PDP)

The AARP® MedicareRx Saver Plus plan includes most generic drugs covered by Medicare Part D and many commonly used brand name drugs. It offers a $405 annual deductible, lower monthly premiums, lower copays with the Preferred Pharmacy Network and access to more than 65,000 network pharmacies. Note:  This plan is not available in: America Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Symphonix Value Rx (PDP)

The AARP Symphonix Value Rx plan includes most generic drugs covered by Medicare Part D and many commonly used brand name drugs. It offers a $405 annual deductible, lower monthly premiums, lower copays with the Preferred Pharmacy Network and access to more than 65,000 network pharmacies. It’s the ideal plan for consumers who want a low premium plan with broad pharmacy access.

AARP Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans insured by UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company are health insurance plans designed to supplement Original Medicare.

Rate discounts may apply to Enrollment Eligibility, Multi-Insured, Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), and Annual Payer. In community-rated states with area rating, all members in the same rating class in the same area pay the same rate (excluding discounts and surcharges).

New members receive a 12-month rate guarantee from initial plan effective date in most states; where in limited states, new members receive a 6-month rate guarantee from initial plan effective date.   

Special Needs Plans

Dual Special Needs Plans (DSNP)

Dual SNPs focus on consumers who receive state assistance with cost sharing. These plans are tailored to low-income, aged and disabled people who need help to get the most from what is available to them through Medicare and Medicaid. Dual SNPs provide consumers with benefits in addition to the benefits covered by Original Medicare, such as routine eyewear and transportation to doctor appointments. Members must have Medicaid to enroll.

Chronic Condition Special Needs Plans (CSNP)

Chronic Condition Special Needs Plans (SNP) are designed for Medicare eligible consumers diagnosed with chronic conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders and/or chronic heart failure. These plans offer benefits in addition to those covered by Original Medicare such as dental, vision, transportation, and routine podiatry. UnitedHealthcare offers a variety of Chronic Condition SNP options for Medicare eligible consumers.

Institutional Special Needs Plans (ISNP)

Institutional SNPs focus on consumers who reside in a contracted skilled nursing facility or assisted living communities and require an institutional level of care. Institutional SNPs may provide consumers with benefits in addition to the benefits covered by Original Medicare, such as routine eyewear and dental coverage (preventive and/or comprehensive).
