AHIP Certification 2020
2020 AHIP Certification: Everything You Need to Know About AHIP Medicare Training
This may be your first time pursuing AHIP certification, or you may be a seasoned Medicare agent. Either way, preparation is key. In addition to the associated cost, some carriers limit the number of times the test may be attempted, and most have strict requirements about minimum scoring.
If you’re planning to take the AHIP test in 2020, we’ve compiled the essential information to help you prepare.
How much does the AHIP test cost?
The standard cost of AHIP certification is $175. Most carriers, however, offer a discount if you log into the agent section of your carrier’s website and use their official link to enter the AHIP website. This discount is usually $50, dropping your cost for AHIP certification to $125.
How many times can I take the AHIP test?
Most carriers allow you 3 attempts using their discount. In many cases, you can take the test again after paying an additional $175.
The exception to the 3 attempts policy is UHC. They allow you to attempt AHIP certification 6 times.
What are the consequences if I fail the maximum number of AHIP attempts?
With any carrier, you may face consequences for failing your AHIP certification. As a new agent, this may mean waiting until the following year to attempt certification again.
If you’re an existing agent who fails re-certification or misses the re-certification deadline, UHC, Aetna, and Humana won’t allow you to receive any earned renewals for the plan year.
Be sure to visit AHIP Certification Central and click on the carrier’s logo to see full AHIP certification and re-certification details.
How long does my AHIP certification last?
You must re-certify with AHIP each year. You can recertify via a carrier link for the discounted $125 rate as long as you are an agent in good standing.
What score do you need to pass AHIP?
To pass the AHIP test you must score at least 90%.
Can I find AHIP test answers online?
Since the test is updated each year, it’s unlikely that any answers you find online will be up-to-date or accurate. The AHIP certification exam is open book, however.
What’s included in the AHIP Exam?
In addition to the Medicare Training Course, AHIP also offers modules in Medicare Fraud, Waste and Abuse (FWA) and CMS General Compliance. You’ll need to successfully complete all sections before receiving certification.
How long is the test and how much time do I have to complete it?
The test includes 50 questions, and you have two hours to complete your exam.
How do I register for the AHIP test?
If you're new to AHIP, you'll need to visit their website and register. If you're using a carrier discount, make sure to register with AHIP before initiating your test via your carrier link.
For existing users who registered with AHIP after June 2012, your registration should still be valid. Make sure to log into AHIP's website to confirm that you still remember your correct username and password. Your National Producer Number (NPN) can be used as your username, but if you have trouble AHIP's website supports both password resets and username requests.
I've already passed the 2020 AHIP exam through a carrier portal. How do I transmit my score to additional carriers?
If you've already passed this year's exam through a carrier portal, you don't need to take the test again for additional carriers. Instead, log into the carrier site where you would like your score transmitted, and use their internal links to connect to AHIP's website, then transmit your score back. You will need to do this for every carrier you're contracted with except the one where you initially obtained your discount.
What happens after I complete AHIP certification?
Once you’ve completed your test on the AHIP website, you will receive a link to a printable copy of your certificate and – if you’ve used a carrier discount link – you’ll be shown a link to transmit your results to the carrier.
Carriers often have specific methods they prefer you to use when navigating the AHIP courses, so be sure to read the information provided by the carrier carefully.
Good luck from the NCC team on your 2020 AHIP Test!
