AHIP season is officially underway, and as tradition dictates, the NCC team has already taken the exam so we can share our biggest takeaways with you before you dive in.
The good news? Overall, AHIP 2027 was very user-friendly. Much of the material covered is content Medicare agents use every day, making this year’s exam feel especially relevant and practical.
Here are a few things we noticed along the way:
Returning Agents Can Still Skip Some Modules
If you’ve completed AHIP in previous years, you’ll be happy to know that you can still bypass Modules 1, 2, and 3. Less time spent reviewing means more time focused on the material that matters.
Be Patient with Modules 4 and 5
Modules 4 and 5 contain timed slides that cannot be skipped. Unfortunately, there’s no fast-forward button here, so plan accordingly and give yourself a little extra time to work through these sections.
Pay Attention to Less Common Plan Types
While many questions focus on topics you encounter daily, don’t overlook Medicare Savings Accounts (MSAs), Cost Plans, Private Fee-for-Service (PFFS) Plans, and Employer Group Waiver Plans (EGWPs). These topics received more attention than you might expect.
Quiz Questions Remain Your Best Study Tool
Just like in previous years, the module quizzes continue to be one of the best resources available. Review them carefully. Many concepts and question styles on the final exam closely mirror the material covered throughout the course.
Watch for Updated Marketing and Communication Rules
AHIP highlighted several changes to Medicare Communications and Marketing Guidelines this year, including updates surrounding Scope of Appointment (SOA) requirements and educational event rules. Make sure you pay close attention to these sections, as they are clearly emphasized.
Familiar Questions Have Been Reworded
Even if a question looks familiar, don’t assume you know the answer immediately. Several questions appeared similar to prior years but were worded differently. Read every question carefully before selecting your answer.

Overall, AHIP 2027 felt straightforward, relevant, and very manageable for agents who take the time to review the material. Read carefully, use the quizzes as study tools, and don’t rush through questions that seem familiar.
